Our Worx Lawn Mower Reviews
History of Worx Lawn Mowers
In 1994 a man named Don Gao founded the Positec Tool Corporation in Suzhou, China, just west of Shanghai. For most of the company’s first 10 years, Positec built power tools for Western companies like Black + Decker, but Gao aspired to have his own brand of lawn and garden equipment.
10 years after launching Positec, Gao produced his first Worx power tool, an electric lawn trimmer. Shortly after launching the Worx brand, Gao had the good fortune of meeting Tom Duncan, a former Bosch executive with extensive connections in the power tool space. Duncan convinced Gao to purchase Rockwell Tools and use Rockwell as a vehicle to enter the US lawn and garden market.
The gamble paid off in that it introduced Positec to US retailers, but those retailers were reluctant to sell Worx equipment. What they wanted was for Positec to make tools they could sell under their own banner. Gao - convinced his Worx line would find legs in the US market - balked and decided to try an innovative marketing strategy for his tools.
Gao launched a series of infomercials and other direct response marketing campaigns for his Worx tools and the response was immediate and significant. Within a couple of years he had sold hundreds of thousands of his electric lawn trimmers, mowers and other garden equipment this way. His success also convinced formerly reluctant retailers to accept Worx products into their stores.
Today, Worx is sold in Lowes, Walmart, Home Depot, Costco and other home centers and big box retailers. The success of the Worx brand in the US is due to a combination of savvy marketing and the company’s ability to produce products of reasonable quality and offer them at very affordable prices, as you’ll see in our Worx lawn mower reviews. That success has allowed Worx to expand their headquarters in Huntersville, NC, and to open an enormous distribution center nearby.
Where are Worx Lawn Mowers Made?
Positec/Worx is not hiding their origins or trying to muddle the facts about their manufacturing chain. It’s a Chinese company, started and run by a Chinese entrepreneur that manufactures all its lawn mowers and other garden equipment in China and exports them to the US and other countries. They’re attitude is that if you’re not comfortable with that, so be it. And you have to give them credit for their honest, straightforward approach.
