Bosch makes a full line of corded and cordless electric mowers that carry on the company’s reputation for reliability and value. They also recently introduced the first of their new robotic mowers that may or may not revolutionize the lawn mower industry.
Bosch was the brainchild of Robert Bosch who started the company in 1886 in Stuttgart, Germany. Today, Bosch has a global presence and 4 core areas of concentration: mobility, industrial technology, building technology and consumer goods. That last segment of the business produces the company's lawn mowers. Our Bosch lawn mower reviews will focus on some of the company’s most well regarded products.
Our Bosch Lawn Mower Reviews
History of Bosch Lawn Mowers
Today, Bosch employs nearly 400,000 people worldwide and has assets worth nearly $100 billion. When you consider that Robert Bosch started the company in his own backyard with little more than a few ideas about how to make a better ignition system for stationary engines, that’s quite a success story.
A year after starting his company Bosch received his first patent, and in 1902 one of the engineers working for Bosch invented the first viable spark plug for automotive engines. By 1910 the company had operations in Asia, Africa, Australia and the US and was generating nearly 90% of its income outside of Germany.
Robert Bosch died in 1942 and never saw his company diversify into consumer goods (power tools, lawn mowers and the like). But diversify the company did and by the late 20th century it held a significant share of the German and UK lawn mower market. While they have met stiffer competition in the US from giants like John Deere and Black+Decker, they have nonetheless carved out a solid position in the American market.
To almost no one’s surprise Bosch also pioneered the development of robotic lawn mowers and is today considered one of the leaders, if not the outright leader, in that technology.
Where are Bosch Lawn Mowers Made?
Trying to unravel the incredible web that is the Bosch manufacturing empire today is not easy. As we mentioned, the company has nearly 400,000 employees worldwide and manufacturing plants in dozens of countries, most notably perhaps in India. However, despite the fact that the company’s Indian operations are enormous, they are mostly focused on automotive-related products.
In researching these Bosch lawn mower reviews we discovered that almost all Bosch cordless and corded electric lawn mowers are made in China, and have been for some time. While a few of their cheaper mowers are produced in Hungary. There was a major lawn mower production facility in the UK, but that was shut in 2019 and the manufacturing shifted to China as well.
