Black & Decker LHT2220 Hedge Trimmer Review

The Black & Decker LHT2220 is right at the top of the list when it comes to popularity in the hedge trimmer world. Offering something that many cordless models can't match - real power - this trimmer has proved a real hit among residential yard owners. For anyone that either has hedges or shrubs to maintain that aren't located near a power point, or simply wants the convenience of just moving freely around their property, you won't go far wrong if you choose this one.

As well as being suitable for both small and large jobs, the Black & Decker LHT2220 is easy on your body too. Weighing in at just 5.9 pounds and designed in such a way that it is well balanced, it can be carried and maneuvered around your property without you feeling the urge to put it down and rest every few minutes. Nor will you wake up with painful regrets the next day - both you and your yard will be in perfect condition.

Here are the Benefits of the Black & Decker LHT2220 Hedge Trimmer:

  • Black & Decker offer a whole host of different cordless products that all use a 20 volt battery as the power source. So the battery that is used in the Black & Decker LHT2220 is the same as the battery used in some of their leaf blowers and string trimmers, among other tools. This offers you an immediate benefit if you do happen to have any of their other tools – you have multiple batteries for your new hedge trimmer, which means more run time. The battery itself is light, allowing the unit to remain lightweight overall, and provides approximately 30 minutes of running time per charge. As you don’t have the hassle of untangling a cable and checking to make sure it’s not tangled, you can actually get quite a lot of work done in those 30 minutes.
  • This is a powerful unit and feels heavy duty when on the job. The 22 inch dual action blade teams up well with the battery to handle thick branches (up to 3/4-inch) and should have more than enough to deal with anything that needs doing in a regular yard. At 22 inches you have a fair amount of reach with this trimmer – making the far sides of your bushes and hedges easier to maintain.
  • You have a support handle that gives you maximum control when trimming. Its 3 sided, meaning you can find the best position in relation to the type of trimming you are doing (whether horizontally or vertically). Just in front of this handle is a small protective window that is designed to block the path of any debris that is kicked up and heading towards you.

Reported Disadvantages of the Black & Decker LHT2220:

  • There really isn’t a great deal you can criticize about the Black & Decker LHT2220. For the money it offers a superb level of performance and represents good value for money. One mild criticism some people have made about it relates to the length of time it takes to recharge the battery. As already mentioned you will get roughly 30 minutes of run time per charge, but it will then take around 8 hours to recharge again. Anyone that is likely to need longer than 30 minutes to complete the job would definitely be well advised to purchase an additional battery if they don’t already have one. On the plus side the batteries are fairly affordable compared to other brands.

About Tom Greene

I've always had a keen interest in lawn care as long as I can remember. Friends used to call me the "lawn mower guru" (hence the site name), but I'm anything but. I just enjoy cutting my lawn and spending time outdoors. I also love the well-deserved doughnuts and coffee afterward!
